I’ve had a huge interest on how to make the snowflake wands that I made for my daughter’s Nutcracker birthday party last month, so I thought I should write a tutorial on how to make them. My daughters think that every girl needs a wand at a party and I couldn’t agree more. The girls LOVED the wands! And the touch of “jingle” onto each one made it a bit more festive.
Glue guns ready?!? Oh and they are time consuming so keep that in mind.
- Glue Gun (with LOTS of extra glue sticks)
- Paper Cutter
- Scoring Board
- Cardstock (in light pink, blue and white)
- Snowflake Punch (I used Martha’s but I’m sure any would work just fine)
- Round 2 inch Circle Punch
- Wooden dowels
- Jingle Bells
- Snowflake Ornaments (I found a pack of them at Michael’s for $1.00)
- Boa Material (I used the kind found on a sting)
- Pop Adhesive Stickers
- Jewel (pearl-like) embellishments with adhesive
Using your glue gun, cover the wooden dowel with the ribbon of your choice. Solid colors work best since the ribbon will be overlapping. Simply glue one end and wrap the ribbon around the dowel and finish it off with more glue.
Cut and Punch everything~I used a shimmery white cardstock for the snowflakes and a shimmery light blue for the round circles.
Cut your pink cardstock down to about 3 inches wide (one sheet should leave you with 4 strips of paper)
Assemble your snowflake. Using the plastic snowflake ornaments (cut off the string) glue on one blue round circle, using the pop adhesive add a snow flake and finish with a jewel in the center. They should look like this once layered.
Using your scorer, score each strip of cardstock. Once finished glue them end to end to create a circle
Push the center down and glue a round circle onto the center (both sides) to secure.
Using your glue gun attach the snowflakes onto both sides of the accordion fan
Attached your ribbon covered wooden dowel to your accordion snowflake using generous amounts of glue.
To attach the 2 jingle bells, tie them onto a piece of ribbon leaving about an inch of ribbon from the top of each bell. Glue them on either sides of the wooden dowel as well as two extra pieces of ribbon to the other side.
Cover both sides with the pink boa ribbon to finish them off.
And there you have it! Pretty Snow Princess wands for all of your favorite girly girls.
Sure to be a hit at your next party!
